Critical Reads – Book Club
Critical Reads – A Book Club for Curious Minds and Bold Conversations
We’re excited to introduce Critical Reads, a monthly book club at Buurthuis Lydia that goes beyond the pages of a book. This is a space for curious minds and open hearts to come together and discuss the ideas that shape our world. Whether you’re a book lover, a thinker, or simply someone looking to connect with others, Critical Reads offers a unique opportunity to engage in meaningful dialogue and community building.
Each month, we’ll gather at Buurthuis Lydia to explore books that amplify diverse voices, particularly those often overlooked due to systemic biases.
Our selections focus on non-Western, Indigenous, people of color, and non-male authors, offering perspectives that challenge traditional narratives. We also recognize the transformative power of spirituality, a force often suppressed or disregarded in Western society. Critical Reads blends academic insights with a holistic approach, balancing knowledge with imagination and soul. These sessions are not just about analysing books—they’re about connecting ideas to our lives, questioning the status quo, and imagining better futures.
Critical Reads is open to everyone, regardless of age or background. You don’t need to be a literary expert to join—just bring your curiosity, a willingness to listen, and your unique perspective. We’re committed to creating an inclusive, welcoming environment where all voices can be heard and valued.
What to Expect:
- Monthly Meetings: Thoughtful discussions in a relaxed, friendly setting
- Diverse Perspectives: A chance to meet neighbours from different generations, backgrounds, and experiences.
- Actionable Insights: Conversations that inspire reflection and action in your daily life.
When and Where:
We’ll meet once a month at Buurthuis Lydia, on Thursday, starting the 28th of November 2024, at 6pm in the Tuinhuis. The next meetings will be announced closer to their dates.
